Energy Drinks

Energy drinks. I love energy drinks. Rockstar, Monster, Red Bull. I even like the offbrand/ generic energy drinks like Joker, Raptor, Shockwave. I love the surge of energy I get and I personally love the taste. It makes me… Happy. Maybe I’m addicted to the caffiene. Who knows. I just know that I love them and I get them way more often than I should.

I like all different kinds of drinks, but of course I have my favorites. I usually enjoy the more “citrus” flavors (orange, lemon, lime, etc.). I particularly like Lime. To be specific, Lime Freeze Rockstar. Sporting a bright green color with a black detail, the lime freezer rockstar first caught my eye in the back of a convenience store fridge. 

My brother, father and I had just recently picked up drinking energy drinks and were only used to the regular flavors. So we decided to start trying all kinds of different flavors. Basically, any color can we could find, we would grab; And we had the money to do so since we had all recently got a decent job. We would snag any flavor of any brand and take it home to try it. After trying it, we would share it, discuss it, and ultimately judge it based on its taste and potency.

 We came across a bright green can that, at the time, must have been new. We had never seen it before. So obviously, we grabbed four cans. Although there were only three of us, we got four because all rockstars were on sale 2 for $3.00. 

In the car, my brother had the honors of being the first to taste the mysterious green drink. He popped the tab and waited for the fizz to die down. My father and I waited in anticipation for his reaction. As he sipped from the can lightly, we saw everything we needed to know with one expression. His eyebrows raised to his forehead, his eyes opened wide. He opened his throat and changed from sipping to glugging the drink. 

My father and I looked at eachother and then back at my brother. We had to stop him before he drank it all! We finally pried the drink from his mouth so that we could get his opinion. After we asked, He stopped, looked at us, looked at the drink, and then said, “This… Is my favorite drink… In the world.”

With that, my dad and I cracked our cans and drank our first sips. It was amazing. After trying several different drinks, this one definitely stood out from the rest. A strong flavor with a great mixture of sweet and sour. Not too much carbonation, but just enough to add some pizzazz. And a lasting potent effect that gave you almost immediate energy. 

Well, needless to say, we were hooked. We ended up single-handedly putting two of our local convenience stores out of stock of that green magic fuel. I would drink it before work, before class, before the gym, before trips. I would drink it just for fun sometimes!  

Sadly though, we ended up stopping the regular consumption. We had all gotten into a different schedule so we didn’t have the funds for such a luxury. 2 for $3.00 doesnt seem like much, but that adds up over time. Before we noticed it, we had spent several hundred dollars on just energy drinks. We decided it would be wise to stop.

Now, energy drinks are rare. But when we get it, we really appreciate the priviledge of drinking our favorite drinks and sharing it together.
